J.M. Airlie Collection]. [1889-1945]

A collection of pamphlets, leaflets, ephemera, books and periodicals primarily from the first quarter of the 20th century. The bulk of the collection deals with the history of the labour movement throughout Britain. There is also material on struggles for independence in Ireland and India and the Russian Revolution and Civil War. The collection also contains election ephemera from Westminister and local elections. J.M. Airlie stood unsuccessfully for the Ayr Burghs parliamentary seat in 1923. He was later a Labour councillor and Justice for the Peace in Edinburgh.
